I'm still no mail, but I just have to brag about what is happening in Oregon!
The State Health Division has launched a public education campaign
called the "Breastfeeding Mother Friendly Employer Project". As a
kick-off to the project, the Health Division has adopted an official policy of
support to breastfeeding mothers who are employees of the Health
Division, including opening a lactation room. They are also providing
packets to Oregon employers on how to become breastfeeding mother
friendly. They plan to recognize employers annually who meet the BF
mother friendly criteria.

To launch the project they had a ribbon cutting ceremony of the lacation
room and awarded two local companies with certificates for being
breastfeeding mother friendly. They also recognized the two Oregon
hospitals that are BFHI. A local TV news station taped the ceremony
and did an extensive interview with a breastfeeding mom who works in
the building (me!). The TV station did a segment on the noon, 5:00 and
11:00 news. It was very postive and they even showed the mom
sitting in the lacation room actually pumping milk! (and while they didn't
show the breast, they were not shy about showing that the mom was
pumping breast milk!) It was all very positive and we're very excited
about it!

If you'd like more information about this project, please e-mail Kristin
