Here is an idea you may want to use. Our local breastfeeding support group, mostly hospital LCs, combined resources with a local church to present a parenting conference. The conference covered: 1) the biblical aspects of parenting, 2) understanding breastfeeding, 3) literature review of parenting books, including Sears, Dobson, Ezzo, and Baptist literature for parents, 4) how churches can support new parents, and 5) Discipline for the very young child. We invited church staff members from hundreds of churches in several denominations, charged $25. 00 and fed them lunch.

Our speakers were great! All were very supportive of breastfeeding and responsive parenting. It gave us a chance to express our concerns about the Ezzo material, and offer alternative ideas.

Especially gratifying to me was the support for breastfeeding and responsive parenting given by the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board. It is evident from all the wonderful publications they put out for parents, children, and church workers. No longer do you ever see a bottle used as a graphic. In fact, there has not been a bottle seen at all in the last several parent magazines. The last one had a wonderful article about the benefits of mothers holding babies, very touching.

It is very easy to be critical of the Ezzo program, but harder to find constructive ways to change the problem. Hope this helps someone.
