Just a few words on the Haberman. It does not work by suction at all, but rather by application of pressure. This is why it is often the only good choice for babies with clefts and severe sucking dysfunction - they don't have to suck at all in order to extract the milk from the Haberman. I don't understand the concept of using the Haberman for suck training - it will not teach a baby to suck, but it will enable the baby to eat until he is able to suck properly. As far as the colic thing is concerned, if the baby is getting too much too quickly and gulping too much air and if the Haberman prevents that from happening, then it will help certain babies. However, the skillful use of a regular bottle/nipple can also accomplish this. But it is no miracle cure as there is such a far-ranging etiology for the condition we call "colic." And certainly using different kinds of bottles/nipples has nothing to do with getting a baby comfortably feeding at the breast.

Warmly,
