Hi Norma-
As was pointed out to me by the woman for whom I guest lecture at some universities in 
the area.  If we do not value our own work, who will?  Please negotiate for a small fee or 
honorarium.  You worked hard for your credentials, and they cost you money.  A $25 fee 
per column, while low, should not be out of the question.
Also, make sure you know who is editing it, and get final refusal.  Sometimes newspaper 
editors edit things enough so content may be changed or original meaning lost.
