Today I boldly called a Nurse Manager on Maternity to tell her that I just
received a call from a mother who delivered at her hospital one week ago. The
mother is deeply saddened because she listened to the nurse who instructed her
on departure to give the baby formula after breastfeeding "because your
colostrum is not enough". The baby breastfed very well the first day and
after one bottle, he has not been able to latch and stay for more than a few
seconds. Comes off and cries.
The nurse manager said, "From one bottle ?", but not in a tone of dismay, but
of real disbelief. I told her that this is certainly not the first time.... it
is quite common, in my experience.

I have a request....... would some of you please give me an estimate of how
many infants you see and / or work with that have presented with this type of
problem (in a year or in a month) ?. I would really appreciate it...... and
please include your credentials and what kind of setting you work in.

Thank you..... sincerely,
