Hi all,

I need to vent.  My best friends granddtr was born on April 12, with a
cardiac defect. She had emergency surgery 12 hours after birth to get blood
flowing to her lower body. She is still being watched for NEC and awaiting
surgery-valve replacement.(I do not know any of the med dx. because I only
talk to grandma-very frustrating).  Her wbc is 22,000 (High) and she is on
some super antibiotic.  Mom started pumping on day three  when someone
finally said that breastmilk would be the best thing in the world for this
baby, she had planned on bf a healthy baby but somehow when the baby got so
sick it was overlooked??  Now mom has a UTI and is on an antibiotic and was
told to pump and dump. I don't think Ashley will ever need this milk, that is
if mom is able to keep up her milk supply(Someone also told her there was a
possibility that  the baby would have to be on some kind of Predigested
formula ARG!!!  Anyway she was told that because of the antibiotic that milk
 would never be given to her baby or any baby. I guess they have never heard
of breastmilk being given to adults.  Now the ironic part of all this is that
Grandma has a severe mal-absortion problem- After having severe, intermmitent
abd pain for two years!! she lost over 40% of her small intestents from
adhesions that caused necrosis. This was two years ago-she lives on a diet of
plain bagles and low fat ensure. Last night, her doctor(I work with him) told
me  he was looking into a program for her,  where they are using HUMAN GROWTH
HORMONE to help stimulate growth in the gut.  I may be wrong but is not this
one of the many ingrediants in breastmilk that you do not get if you use the
other stuff??  Does anyone else see the possibility here??

I wish I had the nerve to suggest it but, I think everyone but you guys would
think I finally had gone over the edge.
