The probiotics in formula are patented...you can read the patent
online....they were culture from a breastfed baby's stool.
I found the patent last year when the reps started coming with the
probiotic formulas....(As usual I knew more than they did about their
products; they don't show up here very often as we are such a small
fish). I don't have time to look today but noodle around at the US
Patent Office and you will find it. (Thank you Valerie McLain, who
kept up on these things.)
I wouldn't give a breastfed baby probiotics. Why mess around with
nature's perfect food and the perfect reaction for THAT BABY to that
food? (Naturally there are times when things are out of whack, eg
antibiotic therapy for mom or baby - but my gut-based opinion (pun not
originally intended!) is that it's good when you can wait out the
baby's reaction and continue Nature's Own Therapy (breastfeeding).
