FWIW, my opinion is that postings related to any governmental action that
affects breastfeeding should be discussed on Lactnet.

In the USA, that includes the DHHS and the Ad Campaign, the FDA and the
Patent Office, Rep Maloney in the Congress, and smaller groups of us going
toe to toe with our local governmental agencies. Think of those who are
trying to get laws passed related to NIP and workplace support. Think also
of those who are trying to prevent laws from being passed related to
cosleeping with BFing infants.

Remember the Code of Ethics that requires us to support the WHO Code? I
believe we are doing just that by discussing all of the above. As we do so,
some of us may find the means and the support to continue their efforts in
their own communities.

In the process of these discussions, I believe we can keep with the
parameters of Lactnet by discussing the ACTIONS of people or entities,
while being very cautious about MOTIVES, real or perceived, behind those
actions. The obvious one is making money in a capitalistic economy. But
when that has a negative impact on breastfeeding, we need Lactnet to stay
informed.

On the other hand...where discussions on a topic can become very specific,
there is the option of creating a secondary email list on that topic.
Reference Linda Smith and her BFSleep list created on Yahoo Groups. She
still posts items of universal interest on cosleeping to Lactnet, like
committee decisions made, successes, temporary setbacks & redirections,
etc. But the details of her battles are on the separate list. A very great
many people have subscribed to that list in addition to Lactnet.

There is another Yahoo Group called BabyConferences that most of us
subscribe to.

Here's a suggestion: I count myself among those who eagerly look forward to
Valerie's postings on patents. I feel they belong on Lactnet for everyone
around the world to see. We might hear about similar patents or govt
actions in other countries.

But when there are detailed discussions related to those patents, the
companies, their version of scientific studies, all their new food
creations, and the Brave New World they may be leading us to, perhaps those
could go onto a Yahoo Group. Name? How about MilkPatents?

I may not agree with all the details of those discussions, but I will be
the first subscriber to Valerie's MilkPatents list on Yahoo. :-D
