Last night's local (Washington, DC) TV news had a piece about an
abandoned newborn being found outside a church.  They showed
the pastor (a woman) telling what happened.  When the baby was
discovered, the police asked her *not* to bring him directly to the
hospital, but to wait there for them because they wanted to inspect
the scene.  Then, said the pastor, she called up a member of her
congregration who had just given birth and asked her to come
nurse the baby!!!  And she did!!!  And they showed this generous
mother, with the caption "Nursed baby" underneath.  I was just
beaming!  Perhaps we are making some progress after all.

A happy thought for this Mother's Day.
