A mother I was working with recently had a baby with a similar problem -
fresh blood in the stool. She was also told to cut out dairy, which she did,
but the problem continued. The baby was switched to a specialized formula
and there was some improvement. The mother resumed breastfeeding with some
formula supplements, and the bleeding got worse again.

After several hospital stays and much investigation, the baby was found to
have a condition (I'm drawing a blank on the name at the moment) that
involves having hemangiomas both externally (she has one on her face/neck)
and internally. This baby apparently has a number of these hemangiomas in
her intestines and digestive system and that causes the bleeding. She has
been on steroids now for some time and that has helped a lot.
