 Robin,

Certainly not every baby with a high palate has a TT, but many babies with TT--perhaps even most--have high palates. So, in concert with other behaviours or indications for TT, it is one more indicator that it might be so. I will say that whenever I observe a high palate, I always look for a TT. If the tongue cannot elevate, it is rare to see a normal palate.

As to potato poultices--I just remembered this--I was raised with horse--my father had raced thoroughbreds. Potato poultices were used for injured feet all of the time, to treat abcesses. we used cooked masked potatos, not what I have ever done for moms, but I'd be curious to try it that way. Here is a link for treating horses, which has some great info:

But, I digress--I have always used grated raw potato wrapped in gauze. It is amazing how quickly the abcess will develop and resolve.

Are you saying that a high palate is always associated with a posterior=20=

tongue -tie? I have seen my share of babies with a high palate, but did =

notice a tt. Is this something you have seen developementally. The high=

the breast in the baby's mouth, but do not necessarily see a tt associate=

with it. Maybe I am missing something? Also, could you please elaborate=

the potato pultace? you would use with a abcess. Would be thrilled to be=
