I just received the third quarter financial information from the Martek
company that is making artificial DNA as a formula additive. The following
is excerted from their statement.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Infant formula containing Martek's Formulaid (Registered Trademark) was
introduced
in the Netherlands during the third quarter of 1995. Nutricia, a licensee of
Formulaid,
began sales of this pre-term formula in a second European country following
approval by
the Dutch Minister of Health earlier this year. During the quarter, the
company
announced findings of two studies which used Martek's docosahexaenoic acid
(DHA)-
containing capsules as their exclusive source of DHA. The studies indicated
that Martek's DHA appeared to increase significantly the HDL : LDL
cholesterol ratio and to decrease the total cholesterol : HDL ratio. These
characteristics are believed by many researchers to be associated with
decreased risk of coronary disease. These study results indicate a potential
market for Martek's DHA- and arachidonic acid (ARA)- containing oils, the
Company continued to optimize its production processes at its Kentucky
fermentation plant as well as produce these oils for commercial use. The
Celton M (Registered Trademark) project reported progress as well during the
quarter. Work began on the study of glycoproteins of pharmaceutical
interest, following the recent demonstration of Celtone M's potential in
examining interactions of carbohydrate chains with proteins.
Also during the third quarter of 1995, Martek raised $10.7 million
through a private
financing. The net proceeds from the sale of these securities will provide
the Company
with additional resources to commercialize Formulaid oils, DHA capsules for
the adult
supplement market and other food products.

Martek's Corporate Address is, Martek 6480 Dobbin Road, Columbia, Maryland

Artificial Infant Milk or The Other Stuff yet, please do so now so I can
finish compiling the results and post them to LACTNET. I have collected
approxiamtely 50 different terms for "non breast milk" and hope to share
these results with the LACTNETTERS with in the next month.
