One of the Moms that I saw last week for nipple confusion gave up.  When I saw
her, the baby nursed beautifully-about 45 min with lots of milk being
swallowed.  After they went home, he had 1 more good feed, 2 fair feeds and
then started fighting the breast during that night. She gave him bottles that
night and the next day I spoke with her by phone two times to try to encourage
her to try again.  She did pump but then put it in the bottle and then gave
up.
My question is:
She called her Ped to tell him she was switching to ABM.  He called in a
prescription for a diuretic to dry up her milk. I have never heard of this.
This is a big Peds practice and I hate to think that this is going to be
common practice now.
The med was Furosemide.

On the up side, the other baby I saw for nipple confusion nursed great while I
was there, and  from then on was totally in love with Mom and breastfeeding-no
problems.  The Mom and Dad called the other night and got on the speaker phone
and said in a big voice together  " We Love you!".  That really made my
day/week!
