I was quite taken with the subtlety of the posters. It reminded me of some
paintings in the hall of Women's Health Services at the hospital where I
worked. While they were pictures of flowers, they did have some resemblance
to female body parts! Either others didn't get them, or I just have a mind
that sees things that aren't there, or there was no protest.

I think the pictures on the posters are intended as print ads. I feel one
would have a different response to running across one in a magazine as
opposed to the full size up-on-the-wall, in-your-face impact of the big
posters. If a hospital isn't already BFHI or similarly gung-ho on
breastfeeding support, it might be too much at once. Pictures of happy,
healthy nursing babies is a first step. Also, more than one of the posters
at a time might attract more protest. Personally, I think the dandelion one
might be the first I would post. (For those who haven't seen it, it shows 2
heads of dandelion seeds and talks about allergies.) The breast image is
most subtle on this one (it's almost lost on the one with the 2 otoscopes if
you haven't seen the others) and the ice cream sundaes is more
"in-your-face".

While we like to think in terms of where we want attitudes to be, we often
have to start with where people are and "nudge" them along by small steps.

Winnie
