Nancy, Please encourage her with her dairy elimination and look at
over-supply/overactive let-down. I had a mom who presented similarly and
after many tests with gastroenterologists was ordered to stop b'feeding.
After she eliminated ALL dairy (even within foods) and worked to decrease
her supply over several days, she has one happy baby boy who sleeps, coos,
smiles, and feeds with delight. Everyone is so happy with the results,
including the g-e.

I work with the moms at length when they are giving up all dairy, as many of
them are quite dependent on it and often experience some withdrawal symptoms
for a few days. We explore foods and beverages that are a real treat to
their palates and we don't go too quickly to dairy alternatives or other
unfamiliar foods because they can prolong the feeling of deprivation. I
recommend a calcium/magnesium supplement during the transition period and
encourage getting yummy things into the house. Sometimes we have to search
for a while, but soon the baby is so much happier that mom can then begin to
explore other diet possibilities.
