I do not intend to impugn the motives of most fathers of breastfeeding
babies. And, many of you who have shared experiences answering questions
of fathers has been terrific, but I do want to add a caution.

There ARE some wierd people out in the big wide world. I was continuously
called (more than 8 years!) by one man who tried (unsuccessfully) to change
his voice when asking questions about breastfeeding. He had done similar
things with midwives and L&D nurses at various hospitals and switched to me
when one of them gave them my number. GAWD!!!

One clue to a wierd one rather than a legitimate father is refusal or
failure to identify that there is a mother involved to the extent of either
asking her questions or putting her on the phone at some point, EVER!

Another is the kind of questions asked. If he focuses on one issue only
and does not even ask one tangential question, you probably have someone
who is beating the flesh while talking with you (if you get my drift). The
man who kept calling me was hooked into pain, breast pain, nipple pain,
chest pain. (HE gave ME a PAIN!)

Consider this a gentle reminder to be careful while also offering
assistance to persons with legitimate concerns whose babies' mothers cannot
speak or do not normally do so over the phone for all manner of reasons,
including cultural and language differences.
