Hi! Yes, a relatively young physician made this statement to me in
regard to some info I had given him in regards to alternative methods of
supplementing brestfed babies when needed. Previously, he was quite
skeptical of "all that stuff" and breastfeeding in general until he saw
the SNS in use and then he said "that probably is a good idea". If only
you knew the whole story...you could understand the magnitude of these
statements by him. I am just so...excited that I had to share.
I am relatively new to Lactnet and have learned much and just have
generally been blessed by the comments of you all. I work in a small
community hospital where I started as a staff nurse on the OB unit about
a year ago...and gradually thru this time have gone from staff nurse to
staff nurse/lactation consultant. Having worked in OB for ten years and
nursed my own four children...breastfeeding has always been a subject
close to my heart...so little did I realize what I was getting into when
I said,"There needs to be more support for breastfeeding moms here."
We have gone from bicycle horn hand breast pumps, breast babies
getting formula pc, "mom can't breastfeed she had a section and is on
demerol, take that baby to the nursery right away, etc..to the 20th
century. It has been a challenging, frustrating, exhilirating
experience and there is a long way yet to go...But I wanted you all to
know your comments and thoughts have kept me going...and I really
appreciate your enthusiasm.
One question...I am now asked all sorts of questions by this
physician that at times I don't feel prepared to answer...the
latest.."Do you have current research on Iron in breastmilk?" Can you
help me?
                             Thanks again!
