Thank you Catherine for the reminder about solids decreasing iron
absorption and IQ.  I just got send a packet of baby feeding info from
WIC.  Included was an article on low-iron and no-iron formulas.  (It's at
work, no ref. info available right now, sorry.)  It did mention iron is
better absorbed from mother's milk than from formula, but it also said
6-20% of breastfed babies also have iron deficiency.  Until I read your
post I forgot to consider that these might well be the breastfed babies who
aren't exclusively breastfed for 7 months or more.  Again, the message we
get is that breastfeeding isn't quite good enough to spare all babies iron
deficiency, when probably the more accurate message would be that it's the
supplementary formula or solids that are undermining it.
