I would love to hear if there are any hospitals that have a written policy on the use of? 'designated donor milk' (milk from a woman the mother has chosen, not a milk bank) as Jaye puts it :)

I recently briefly explored the position of the IBLCE in regards to the use of donor milk that is not from a milk bank on behalf of our Special Care Nursery and I didn't have any success identifying the existence of a position or standard of practice in regards to this issue for IBCLC's. Do any of you know where/if this topic is addressed within the scope or standards of the IBLCE?

I did come across this information from LLLI:

*A Leader shall not ever suggest an informal milk-donation arrangement, including wet-nursing or cross-nursing.*

Here is a link to the LLLI policy on human milk sharing.

http://www.llli.org/Release/milksharing.html

I found this interesting. Didn't answer my question though if the IBLCE has guidance for IBCLC's though. I look forward to seeing if any of you can share anything.

Thanks,

Subject: Donor milk policies

Hey Everyone,

I have a question for all you policy makers out there regarding donor milk.
I am looking for hospital policies on Banked Donor milk (from a milk bank)
and designated donor milk (donor milk from a woman chosen by the mother).
These need to be written as two separate policies/procedures.

I'll give more details later.trust me it's important and very interesting.
:-)
