On a positive note, there was an article in the local paper yesterday
taken off the AP. It was all about ear infections and how bad they are
for kids and how difficult to treat. The middle portion of the article
was about how breastfeeding was THE WAY to prevent ear infections and how
the protection seemed to last even after weaning - apparently,. if you
can avoid repeated infections during infancy, the probability of
developing them later in childhood are greatly diminished. Anyways, it
was a really nice plug for an very important reason for breastfeeding. I
wonder how many HCPs mention this to pregnant moms who are deciding about
whether to bf or not. Or are they told about the link between infection
and later learning problems that was mentioned on Lactnet. So much
ignorance out there in the face of so much knowledge. How sad. (gee, and
I started out on such a happy note)
