Dear Lactnet Friends:

I've been teaching infant massage classes for a long time, and have
gathered a lot of research about its benefits to the mother, to the baby,
and to breastfeeding. In the massage classes, mothers massage their own
babies while watching me demonstrate on my doll. I don't massage babies. I
will use CST techniques on a baby if the mother is my client, and have seen
a torticollis release and other amazing things occur.

However, I don't know of any research that specifically discusses targeted
infant massage to tight neck and back muscles. It does make sense to use
massage that way.

A chiropractor skilled with working on infants can help in such situations
and there are several lovely studies supporting that modality.

After learning about infant massage used in Puerto Rico and Slovakia, I am
as curious as anyone about the topic.

Perhaps using Reiki or Therapeutic Touch would also help.
