Dear Lactnet Friends:

One of the changes in my career is that cancer has gone from a death
sentence to a huge bump in the road for many people. When I started in
college to be a nurse, one was lucky to survive, much less to have a baby.

 Now, pregnant ladies are receiving chemotherapy, and so are lactating
ones. Cancer is no longer on the list of contraindications for
breastfeeding. More research is being published about this.

The waitress at a local diner was diagnosed at 19 weeks gestation, was
treated, and gave birth to a healthy baby.
