It has been a while since I posted so a quick re-intro is probably in order.
My name is Dru. I am a B.Sc.N. student at the University of Alberta and I
aspire to become a midwife with LC certification in the (hopefully) not too
distant future. I am posting this morning on behalf of a friend who suffers
from severe endometriosis (with her permission). She is of the understanding
that pregnancy and lactation can lead to a remission of symptoms and, given
the unlikelihood of conceiving, she is strongly considering inducing lactation
(she must have been listening to my passionate promotion of breastfeeding
during tutorial sessions :O) ). However, she has a few questions.

First, if she is able to induce even a limited degree of lacatation she does
not wish to discard her milk and would prefer to donate it either to a milk
bank or possibly privately. Is this possible? If so, how does an individual go
about donating to a milk bank, especially if they have induced lactation?

Second, it is my understanding that in order to induce lactation in the
absence of pregnancy, estrogen and progesterone would need to be used to mimic
pregnancy and allow for sufficient glandular development prior to the
initiation of pumping and galactogogues. Am I on the right track?

I have suggested that this individual seek a referral to a breastfeeding
clinic for assistance in inducing lactation but she was also interested in
what 3000+ lactivists and l'experts had to say on the subject. I am looking
forward to your contributions.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts, suggestions, opinions, etc.
