The safety issue was how we stopped that practice in 1987 when I was hosp
LC.  Hospitals are TERRIFIED of using something designed for one purpose
for another purpose :-b  duh....but it worked.  Nurses were forbidden to
use bottle nipples for anything other than a bottle.  Extra aside: one dear
LC friend I know has always had great success using a bottle nipple to
transition baby to breast   :-)  Go figure.  It's the support and teaching
that go with the use of any crutch that eventually solves the problem.
