I have been on Lactnet almost since it's beginning.  I have learned so
much!!  Now, I would like to share a wonderful success.......thanks to
support from LACTNET family.
I have a client who is 47, has not had any children of her own.  Private
adoption of a newborn planned - and I quietly suggested induced
lactation.....she thought I was crazy.....but......
Beautiful Hope Lynne born yesterday at 8AM, 7#10oz.......adoptive mom at
the birth - gave Hope her first bath, etc.  Hope went to breast
eagerly....immediately!!
Today, birth mother visited to say good-bye, lots of crying, confusion and
stress!!
I stopped in to visit adoptive mom and babe after everyone left (note on
door said "Please stop back later, mom and I are learning to breast
feed"!).  Mom called me from her room to "stop and see me"
I entered the room (after gently knocking and announcing myself) and found
the mom laying peacefully in bed, with Hope snuggled close, belly to belly,
skin to skin with her  mom.....happilly nursing.  I cried.....
BTW - I am a hospital LC who is constantly battling indifference, some of
the staff still thinks I am crazy for even suggesting induced
lactation.....but I know many have learned from this mom.
She said that after everyone left, Hope took 2 oz. of formula and was still
unsettled and fussy - she refused any more formula but, when put to breast,
nursed, sighed and went to sleep.......
This is what it is all about.........
