While the idea of a honeymoon with a newborn baby might be a great idea
for some cultures, we need to take into account it doesn't work for all
cultures.

I spent some time last week speaking to a woman (India born/raised) who
felt she had a very difficult time with her 1st child because no one in
the neighborhood (US)came to bring her food, help out, say "hi," etc.
She had expected people to drop in and offer assistance (of course
everyone said they would). On the other hand I have counseled moms who
are 5 days pp and are busy entertaining their in-laws!!!!!

I think the best thing would be to encourage mom and baby to get into bed
and let all visitors bring mom food, take the older sibling out to the
playground, throw in a load of laundry, hold the baby while mom takes a
shower. Sort of a honeymoon with lots of help.

If we look at different cultures, many of them already have this system
in place. It's just the generic American culture which doesn't. Too
bad...
