I believe there are multiple reasons for baby ( and adult for that
matter) palate shape.
We have heredity, we have things such as tongue thrust and tongue
sucking (which I truly believe helps shape our bubble palates)
I often see these short, curled tongues along with bubble palates.
Tongue pressing on forward palate over and over.

Premie babies who've been deep-suctioned, laryngoscoped and/or vented
have tent-shaped,bubble & canal-shaped palates.

My grandson, who was vacuum-extracted and deep-suctioned on the perineum
for MSF, had a sideways S-shaped palate. Very hard to tap into his suck
cue and my daughter got very sore nipples and mastitis while he learned
to make and keep a latch.

I wonder sometimes if it isn't tongue size and length and frenulum
varieties which are genetic and the palate goes along with what the
tongue does.
Also, what percentage outside influences (vacuums and forceps, etc.)
have on tongue movement and palate shape I know not. But I have my
suspicions. More questions than answers.
 And it all impacts breastfeeding.
And I truly believe that breastfeeding or lack of impacts the rest of
the child's life, to some degree.
