OK all -Esp. the researcher types
I'm finally getting around to posting this. I was hesitant to post on
myself but I have done alot of self research and talked with a local LC.
I think you will find it interesting because it's unusual and I can find
almost nothing on the two.
Does anyone know of anyone breastfeeding with Primary Billiary
Cirrhosis(PBC)?
If so please let me know.
Here's what I know so far: PBC is a silent auto-immune disease that
destroys the billiary ducts in the liver. With it you get elevated liver
functions. With pregnancy the LFTs are slightly elevated. But postpartum
6-8 weeks the LFTs are in the 1000s. I believe the elevated LFTs
corelated with elevated prolactin which is an immune stimulator. The
LFTs stayed moderately elevated until solids were introduced and mildlly
elevated until weaning. (With my first@ 14m/o) Has anyone seen this? With
any other auto-immune disease? I am still nursing my 2nd 16 m/o but am to
the point that it is putting my health at risk.
Could use some fresh insight. And am available to talk to anyone else in
a simular situation.
Jill
