I worked with a family whose child had a chromosomal defect, they knew their
baby would live only a short time. She breastfed him and carried him in a
sling most of his life, he died in the first year. She loved him fully,
breastfeeding him exclusively. She, her husband and their older children
have had the experience of living life through its full spectrum,
joy-grief-love-loss, how cruel that someone would suggest minimizing the
journey, that's just avoidance behavior. It's a strategy that makes us less
than who we are.
