In the case decribed by Karyn-grace Clarke, it sounds like the mom had a
reaction to the GV. Be sure the dilution is correct or it can cause skin
ulcers (especially in baby's mouth!) Mom can use a hydrogel dressing if
the wound is not healing well, if changed frequently it should not
increase the risk/intensity of thrush. Usually mom should have Diflucan
(200 mg loading dose, 100 mg day for at least 13 days) and baby needs
oral treatment (nystatin suspension). I also advise that mom take
acidophilus and garlic as a supplement. I've had great luck taking Pau
d'Arco regularly as a 'prophylactic" treatment. baby can also receive
acidophilus treatment (open capsule, sprinkle on wet finger and let baby
suck finger 3 times per day). it also helps if mom eliminates dairy from
her diet, reduce or eliminate sugar and NO artificial sweeteners. Pat
Gima (Hi!) has an excellent yeast treatmetn plan on the internet
(www.erols.cindyrn/yeast) as does Jack Newman (same site). Does baby
have a yeasty diaper rash? What else is going on?
Good Luck
