We must remember, what is the natural thing to do? What does nature want
baby to do?
The longer a small baby sleeps at one time, the slower and shallower his
breathing gets. Remember tummy sleeping creates longer sleep periods and
therefore is a high risk factor for SIDS. We must consider mother and
baby together - as a unit- what is best for both.

ubject: Re: bottle-feeding breastmilk

Good thoughts, Diane, I was thinking of the same thing when I was
checking the reference for the amount of time it takes for breastmilk vs
formula to digest. Since, babies tend to take less at breast this
contributes to the frequent feeding. Could delve into this a little
more but have to get the boys ready for school.

Back in April I attended a conference with Jack Newman and he did indeed
make reference to babies being satisfied with larger amounts in their
tummies. If mom would give a larger amount of her breastmilk in a
bottle at night the baby could go a bit longer between feeds. Not word
for word but the idea was mentioned. The fullness helped them to sleep
longer.
