I received three calls in one week on this issue - two were from foster
moms who wanted to breastfeed a foster baby in their care. In one
situation, the mom was going to adopt the baby. Both were told OK at first,
and then told NO from higher up.

Do any of you know foster moms who were allowed to breastfeed the baby in
her care? If so, can you put them in touch with me?

The last call was from an attorney for several hospitals - her name is
Carolyn Petite, and her email is [log in to unmask] and she gave me
permission to post this info. She has a mom who is giving up her baby for
adoption, and has agreed to let the new mom breastfeed the baby. There is
some talk of both of them breastfeeding initially. She wanted to know if
any other hospitals have dealt with this issue in terms of paperwork, what
needs to be signed, etc.

Thus, do any of you know any hospitals that have encountered this
situation? Feel free to e-mail her directly on this. My feeling - if the
birth mom agrees, then hurray, because any breastfeeding these babies get
is a real bonus.
