I want to point out that not only is there rancor between some volunteer
breastfeeding supporters and some IBCLCs, but there is also rancor between
some IBCLCs and some MD.  Verity Livingstone wrote a chapter in an edited
volume by Simopoulous et al. (1998) in which she described exactly what it
is LCs do, but never refers to LCs, because apparently she thinks *only* MDs
are qualified to support breastfeeding and solve breastfeeding problems.

You get the best of all possible worlds when you have a La Leche League
Leader who is an IBCLC.
