Elisa Casey describes an instance where it was entirely appropriate to
encourage a newborn baby to feed more often than baby was cueing for. This
was not an AGA, term, unmedicated baby. In the absence of dysmaturity
and/or prematurity and/or drug effects, AND assuming weight gain and
behavior are normal, babies can safely and comfortably be relied on to sort
it out themselves. If mother is waking in the middle of the night because
of discomfort from overfull breasts, fine, wake the baby and ask for relief.
If they are both sleeping, what's the problem?
We are expected to know the difference between normal and abnormal and treat
them accordingly. Is that so hard?
