Are there any consultants in Birmingham or nearby there?

I know of someone (my mother's friend's niece!) who had a premature baby
around 26-28 weeks (I'm not sure of all the details!), who is now two
weeks old. She is at home, at a bit over 4 lbs, and the lady is trying
to nurse, but the baby is tiring quite readily.

My mother gathers that she (the baby) had been given bottles, but is not
sure she was actually *sucking* at all, or if it was more that she was
having milk "dribbled" down her throat...I said in that case, why not a
tube rather than the bottles? And I said if she was strong enough to
actually suck the bottle nipple, it would have probably been better to
nurse, and she would have likely been able to nurse. So maybe she
wasn't sucking... Anyhow, like I say, I don't know all the
details...this is 3rd hand information! ;-)

I told my mother about the supplemental nurser systems, and that it is
possible to set up a temporary one with a french5 gavage tube and a
bottle with an enlarged hole in the teat...but I also know from my
personal experience that around here, the pharmacy would have been able
to order 100 of these tubes for me, and I didn't want 100 of them! I
ended up getting one from my IBCLC friend, who orders them by the 100's,
but if there is a LC around Birmingham area in England, would they also
be able to tell me more about whether these tubes are available there,
and how easily?

Thank you!
