Hi Beth,
That was a good comeback about giving a feed for hypoglycemia, because
the nurses can be so quick to want to give formula for that.
You can approach this nurse in one of two ways:
1. Try to win an ally. Give some info about the taste and smell of ebm
to arouse the baby. Heightened sense of smell, babies know mothers'
own milk, how do you feel when you smell fresh coffee or walk past a
fried chicken place? Also you can share that the simple sugars act
quickly and the proteins kick in later. Think of a person who had a
low blood sugar as result of taking insulin.
2. Figure this nurse is just a troublemaker and has been and will
continue to be adversarial. In that case give her a basic physiology
or nursing textbook and highlight the basic physiology part about
digestion.
