I think the families that have the hardest times are the
Bradley/Hypnobirthing educated people because neither of these groups seem to offer a 'what if'
clause in their education. They seem to come across with the idea that if you
do it this way it WILL work. Not always true. Sometimes medical
intervention is needed. The parents less prepared for this fall the hardest and have
the toughest time overcoming their personal 'failure' postpartum than those who
go with a birth plan that also offers alternatives 'just in case.' Also,
some of these methods teach little or nothing about postpartum and
breastfeeding, about when to get help PP, the signs of a thriving baby, etc. Just about
any woman can get a baby out, it may not be the way she had hoped for, there
may be a few bumps along the way in labor, BUT, at least labor has a beginning,
middle and end, unlike parenting, which, if we are lucky enough, goes on and
on and on!!! I think we need MORE focus on post partum along with the rewards
of a healthy out come.. ie: healthy baby, healthy mom, and lots of
breastmilk!!!
