Kathy asks: Why is it that no one talks about this issue of wet tubing?

That's a question that I've always wondered. We never see moisture in the
brand of tubing that we use---nothing can back up because of the barrier
that is in place, and there is no need to rinse/wash the tubing because it
is a closed system and nothing ever gets into it. This is the type of tubing
set-up that the Human Milk Banking Assoc. of North America recommends to
prevent contamination of the tubing/milk (by both backed-up milk AND water
that can sit there after washing the tubing---I have seen mold!). How do
those of you who use/rent pump brands that have tubing without the barrier
(like Medela brand?) deal with this issue?
