There seems to be a small subset of women who have atypical body reactions while breastfeeding - probably due to the release of either prolactin or oxytocin or both. These have included headaches, intense feelings of depression or dread, itching, and nausea. Interestingly, these same reactions have been reported by some women in association with climax during sex. Those women who continue breastfeeding usually report a lessening of symptoms over time, although in some cases in can take months.

In the case of nausea, the mother could talk with her physician about medication to counteract these symptoms. If she would like to try something natural, ginger is very good for nausea. Mom could try taking capsules or drinking tea before or while nursing. There are also anti-nausea patches. I am also thinking that some type of aromatherapy might be helpful here or perhaps accupressure.

Good luck to this and other moms likewise afflicted. What a terrible trick for mother nature to play on them.

Warmly,
