Ilene,
Another way to approach it would be, "Everything I knew about breastfeeding
was wrong."

After all, we've changed latch (remember the RAM??). changed our knowledge
about what regulates milk production (who knew that demand and DRAINING
would be together), and what makes milk (I liked the good beer,
personally....)

Get some balloons and let them try all those latches. (Tell them to bring
some lipstick!) Get a picture of the "new" breast. Give them a feast of
something that won't hurt the baby (isn't there a study about chocolate
being okay as long as it's less than a pound a day??). (Or some nice Vermont
cheddar cheese, with apple cider. Or a broccoli and onion dish! You get the
drift.) Brew some Mom's Milk Tea for them to try.

You can't keep up on everything. IF I had to change the dressing on a PICC
line I could do it, but I wouldn't want anyone watching me while I ceased
breathing for the duration of the dressing change. I don't like to hang
blood because I have to think it through every little step. Nurses are
mostly stressed out, so congratulate them for being good nurses, wanting
this good education.

So help them laugh at you, and with you, and get them nicely up to date with
some fun learning. What a great opportunity!
