I agree, Ros, for pointing out that even though it is bad press, pain, for many
woman, is also a fact. I think though that this woman still could have presented "her" truth in a less condemning fashion -- after all she did stick with it and continue to breast feed, to her joy and satisfaction.

Just as I am appalled by articles like the one in the Daily News, so am I appalled by the ones that make BF seem wonderful, instinctual, and instantly successful, or which minimize the things that woman go through...An article
has to present both sides of the coin, and the vast middle as well, to be a fair one.

So I guess that's what it's up to us to do -- counter the bad press, mitigate the
bed rep -- but not at the same time present BF in such glowing terms that its bound to be a disappointment, or make it seem so easy, that moms who have
difficulties figure they're the failures.

There is also a whole genre of tongue-in-cheek first-person reporting that
seems to take things like dads in the delivery room, breast feeding, and
other major events with difficult aspects, to sort of condescend in the end
to say "but I did it." It's often hard for me to tell what the actual point of
the article was, other than to relive the personal experience, and once more come to griips with it, without thought to
what effect it may have on an innocent public.
