Hey there,

There are certainly mood stabilizer medications that are compatible with 
breastfeeding.  You could provide info from Hale or LactMed if you know 
what she's been offered.

I think though, that in this discussion about scope of practice that a 
case like this becomes important.  I think it would appropriate for 
someone to ask an IBCLC, out of a list of medications, which ones would be 
better for the mom and baby while breastfeeding and that it would be 
expected that your recommendations would be respected.  But, this is 
different.  I don't think it's appropriate to be recommending treatments 
for bipolar disorder. That is not within the scope of training for people 
working with breastfeeding mothers.  I think there's a difference here.
