"I used to not think much about guilt, and when I did I saw it as an

inadvertent product of awareness that there is a better choice than
the
one being made. I have to say, after reading the analogies to
dentistry
practices, that I have a different view of guilt. It seems to have
crossed over to "why not guilt". Guilt in this form is a last
ditch,
powerless base from which to work."

I hope you didn't think I was in any way implying that we should
approach letting parents know the truth about why breastfeeding is
important in the same way as the dental hygenist's approach. Quite
the contrary! What I was intending (between the lines perhaps) was
there is no compunction about piling it on thick in the dental
situation, but no matter how "gently" breastfeeding advocates
present it, they are reprimanded for "imposing" guilt.
There is no way I would try to shame a woman about her decision to
bottle feed. I would be more inclined to say something like "are
you aware that....." or "I chose to breastfeed because...." or "The
more I learn about breastfeeding, the more impressed I am with....."
etc.
