Thanks for addressing this.  Please don't discontinue this list.
Even with all its faults and problems, it is still very valuable.

One thought-would there be any value in having each person "sign" an

agreement on first subscribing stating that they have read and agree

to abide by the guidelines?  This would also state that the
listmothers have the authority to discontinue any participant who
oversteps these boundaries.  (I think this is already in the welcome
info, but not with the participant having to actively acknowledge
and agree to it.)

It is really a shame that professionals
need to be disciplined and can't do so themselves.  ListMOTHERS is
really the right term for you I guess.  Like children, we seem to
need guidance to keep us growing in the right way.

Providing this list is a truly valuable service.  I don't think we
appreciate what you do as much as we should.  (Perhaps we assume
this is all the LMs have to do-they have the same kind of family,
job etc. time requirements we all face.)  Sometimes we tend to
think of LN as a right, not the priviledge it truly is.  Thanks a
thousand times over for your efforts to provide this service.
