As an FYI: it is very common for boys (usually around 13-14 y/o) to develop
breast buds. About 2/3 of boys will have this situation to some degree,
either on one side or both. In boys, this usually occurs at the beginning of
puberty. Just like for girls, these buds can be tender. I have NEVER heard
of surgery being recommended for this, as the buds go away by themselves (in
the boys). I have seen more than one boy in my office for this. They are
concerned and embarrassed. I have found it helpful to tell them how common
it is and that it will resolve on its own. I've always figured that once the
more masculine hormones start raging that the breast development would be
suppressed.
