Thank you, Rachel; very sad ad indeed... :-((

I would like to suggest something: what about talking to all the Medela
lc's?
What is their role in all this? Should they put more pressure on their
bosses? Leave the company, because this ad policy runs counter to our Scope
of Practice and Code of Ethics?
Should it lead to a complaint from other lc's with IBLCE?
I already entered this 'battle' a while ago and was told, after a couple of
not so friendly e-mails, that I would receive the next draft edition of
their brochure I commented upon, to edit it.
I don't know when it is due, this new version, but like you, was very
annoyed that the mistakes were simply translated into Dutch from the
original version, arguing "it has to remain workable with headquarters".
Why?! For lc's, *mothers and babies in the bf process together* should come
first. Working for a company producing or selling bf stuff should have
quality improvement in the broadest sense of the word as a primary goal, I
would reckon. I would fight my head off, defending correct wordings, if it
were my job.
It's not always easy, to be known as a 'troublemaker', but I can live with
that, as long as I know what my motivations are.
I bet many of us know lc-colleagues working for Medela. I truly feel they
have a responsibility in this whole issue. Lc's are also a 'marketing asset'
for Medela, so it probably would not be good for the company if all the lc's
would withdraw. Yeah right... they won't, I know, but they are at least in
our 'league', which makes discussing with them a different matter than
discussing with CEO's, I think.

What do you all think...?
Nancy, how do you see your responsibilities in this respect?

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
