In fact, I learned that some programs that have been very successful using
"peer counselors" actually used "aunties" or "grandmothers" due to the lack
of freedom of travel/transportation of the actual peers.

The peer counselor training can be VERY effective for these people - who
could be recruited in churches, senior groups, hospital "pink ladies" etc.
My mother was an EXCELLENT teacher for English as a second language and
would have also been a great counselor - had this opportunity arisen.

It is true, many grandmas (me, included) are still working full-time and
have crazy lives - but there are those who would take this on as a project
if it were offered.  In fact, I have a supervisor who plans to retire and
wants to offer to rock babies in a hospital - I'm going to suggest she do
this, instead!

GREAT IDEA!  GO FOR IT!
