I am working with a mom who has a baby born Monday, April 10, 38 5/7 weeks.
5lbs, 4oz. baby admitted to NICU with low blood sugar. 24 hours later had
bloody stools.Had only been fed Similac. I was called to speak to Mom
because she was told by the neonatologist that her baby was probably
lacotse intolerant and there was no point in her pumping becasue the baby
could never tolerate her breastmilk. Augh! I told her to keep pumping. I
know that primary lactose intolerance is extremely rare, also, mom did
mention to me she has a 14 year old who went through 4 formulas before they
finally started him on Nutramagen. I explained the difference between
lactose intolerance and cow's milk protein sensitivity. I told her to make
sure she mentions her first son's history to the doctor. I am working
tomorrow and want to spreak to the doctor. Does anyone have any nuggets of
wisdom for me before I go head to head with this doc? Thanks.
