A mother of a 6 wk old baby boy called me about a possible yeast infection a
couple of weeks ago. I sent her to her drs for treatment for a yeast and
mastitis. She had a fever with lump and pain, also itchy red nipples and
shooting pains. The baby has not been seen to have the white coating or
diaper rash, etc.
Her dr. put her on antibiotics for 12 days with one dose of Diflucan, which
she took at the onset of her antibiotic rx. She called me today with c/o
itching all over her breast. Just the breast, not the nipple, the shooting
pains and red nipples have resolved, but she has itchy breast skin. It
doesn't itch from inside.
So, is this a dermatitis from the yeast? or is this left over healing
itching from the yeast infection? I'm not sure where to go from here in
helping her. I'm afraid her doctor won't be helpful either. AHH!
Thanks for your help ahead of time.
