I've seen babies go 24 hours without nursing (maybe 4 or 5) - they're doing
well, just not ready to latch yet.  Mom will often express a bit of colostrum
onto her nipple and baby will readily lick it off.  When they're ready, they
latch on like champs -nursing beautifully and frequently.    No probs with
blood sugars or other issues.
